The Alocasia Frydek Variegata, also known as the Green Velvet Alocasia

This Alocasia is a true showstopper. Its large, heart-shaped leaves are like living art, splashed with bold strokes of white or cream variegation that light up against the deep, velvety green backdrop.

Each leaf feels luxurious to the touch and looks like it’s been hand-painted by nature. The contrast is dramatic, almost magical, making this plant a favourite among collectors and plant lovers alike.

It’s not just a plant, it’s a statement piece. One that brings a sense of elegance, wonder, and quiet beauty to any space it lives in.

About the Artist: Araceae Art

When the world slowed down in 2020, Toby found comfort and inspiration in the quiet resilience of houseplants, especially the bold shapes and striking patterns of tropical foliage. What began as a personal fascination soon grew into Araceae Art: a collection of meticulously handcrafted miniature plants that honor the beauty and uniqueness of nature’s finest leaves.

After experimenting with countless materials, Toby discovered that Japanese resin clay allowed him to capture what he loved most, the delicate veins, textured surfaces, and lifelike character of tropical plants. While many miniature artists focus on animals or fantasy scenes, Toby chose plants for the story they tell: one of slow growth, quiet strength, and connection to the natural world.

"Working with clay feels special," he says. "It’s the same earth that helps plants grow, and now I get to use it to capture their beauty in a lasting way."

Owning a piece of Araceae Art isn’t just about having something pretty. It’s a quiet reminder that even when things feel still, life keeps growing and so can we.
